I use notebooks on a daily basis and have been doing so for a couple years
Image of my notebooks
In my quest to standardize my life, I would love to have a unique but optimised notebook format for both work, personal bullet journalling, field note taking...
I would want to have the least amount of notebooks types, and to be able to always have them on me, in my amazing East pack backpack my sister gave me for my 23rg birthday, which holds much of my life
What my perfect notebook would be :
- small enough to fit in my backpack, yet big enough to hold an A5 sheet of paper (or an A4 sheet folded in half)
- inexpensive (5€ max)
- Has regular lines that can be used for writing or to help with simple schematics
- Can be opened flat on a table
- Can be reversible
- Can be written on while standing
For this I imagine a notebook :
- spiral-bound
- standard size 24cm x ??
- "petits carreaux"
- Reinforced covers with thick cardstock

title: Designing a replacement piece for a microwave oven plate

The glass plate of my microwave oven broke, and the only compatible plate that could be found at the local pawn/charity shop didn't have the little tabs on the bottom to assure a connection with the motor : it couldn't spin.
To solve this problem, I decided to design and 3D-print a plastic piece that could be glued on the bottom of the new plate.
{{< figure align=center src="images/broken_plate_with_ruler.jpg" alt="broken plate with ruler" >}}
Here you can see the biggest piece that could be saved from the terror of the bin. I took measurements, and for more accuracy, of course the ruler had to be pink.
After having taken some measurements, it was time for me to sketch an idea of how the piece would look like :
{{< figure align=center src="images/2016-10-16-14.44.42-copy-940x1024.jpg" alt="Alt text" title="Again : no pink, no accuracy." >}}
It was then time to design the piece in CAD : I chose Solidworks to test it out. It was a bit difficult :
{{< figure align=center src="images/capture.png" alt="Alt text" >}}
But yep, I found it awesome, even though it's just a very simple piece.
Then I discovered Solidworks could generate technical drawings : Ow yes !
{{< figure align=center src="images/piece3.jpg" alt="Alt text" >}}
I feel like a real engineer now
I then exported the 3D file to be 3D printed. This file, if needed, can be found on [Thingiverse, the website hosting thousands of 3D models for printing](http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1843328)
{{< figure align=center src="images/2016-10-21-15-19-49.jpg" alt="Alt text" title="My cheap Chinese inaccurate falling-apart but beloved 3D printer doing its job." >}}
{{< figure align=center src="images/2016-10-21-15-25-39.jpg" alt="Alt text" >}}
And there it is, all finished.
Then I glued it at the bottom of the new plate : (use microwave-safe epoxy, not CA/super glue)
{{< figure align=center src="images/2016-10-22-11-11-57.jpg" alt="Alt text" >}}
There it is glues at the bottom of the plate
{{< figure align=center src="images/2016-10-22-11-12-16.jpg" alt="Alt text" title="A view from the underside" >}}
In the end, this fix worked really well. We now have a working rotating microwave-oven ! YAY !
Edit :
Now I was all happy about this piece working great, until one day, I decided to make some microwave popcorn (you know, the paper bags)... Well this heated the plate and melted off the plastic piece...
{{< figure align=center src="images/hfuwzrrr.bmp" alt="Alt text" title="The melted off piece" >}}
Well, I guess I'll have to print another one now...
You might have to consider this if you want to make one yourself...

I have picked up photography as a hobby this summer after having purchased a DSLR with my summer job money.
Before diving in head-first, I made sure to learn about photography, the mechanics, how to use a camera and how to compose an image. I followed [Mark Levoy's course](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7ddpXYvFXspUN0N-gObF1GXoCA-DA-7i) on photography he teaches at Stanford, and read various blogs and websites of which Roger N. Clark's website about different types of photography, [Clarkvision.com](https://clarkvision.com/galleries/) was an excellent resource.
Hereafter is an example of some of the best pictures I have taken so far, all posted to [my Flickr Page](https://www.flickr.com/photos/148309258@N07/)

title: Revisiting photogrammetry

I made an article about photogrammerty a few months back, but have learnt a few new things since, so it's time for a revamp !
I came across [this awesome tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4NTf0hMjtY) on YouTube by CG Geek, and I followed his tips.
I will only work on the render part of the photogrammetry, using only the little buddha scene from last time. The texture settings will be much better, as I'll use nodes this time to set all the properties.
Here is what I came up with :
{{< figure align=center src="images/revamp-1024x576.png" alt="Alt text" title="My new render" >}}
{{< figure align=center src="images/untitled-1024x576.png" alt="Alt text" title="The old version" >}}
## How it was made
I first imported the raw model, textureless
{{< figure align=center src="images/textureless.png" alt="Alt text" title="The textureless model. Really does not look good like this." >}}
Then I added the raw texture
{{< figure align=center src="images/textures.png" alt="Alt text" title="This is the texture only. Better, but lacks realism." >}}
I created a material, and used the nodes to configure it :
{{< figure align=center src="images/nodes-1024x780.png" alt="Alt text" title="Some nodes to set material properties" >}}
{{< figure align=center src="images/material.png" alt="Alt text" title="Material loaded !" >}}
There is a rougness which depends on the darkness of the texture : the darker, the smoother.
{{< figure align=center src="images/roughness.png" alt="Alt text" >}}
I added a bimp map to create little bumps where the texture was the darkest. That added to the realism of the tree bark, and created some wear on the statue itself.
{{< figure align=center src="images/bump.png" alt="Alt text" >}}
I added a background HDR from [HDRI Haven](https://hdrihaven.com/), awesome website, I really recommend ! It's all free to use high quality material ! [Feel free to help their patreon page](https://www.patreon.com/hdrihaven/overview)
{{< figure align=center src="images/back.png" alt="Alt text" >}}
Then  I played with the camera settings, finding a nice view, setting the focus point and opening the aperture for the background and foreground to be a bit blurry.
And that's it ! I thing this result is way better than last time !
{{< figure align=center src="images/revamp.png" alt="Alt text" title="The final result !" >}}
